Alberta Charter School Leadership Networking Day

Connect Charter School invites you to attend this leadership networking day

Alberta Charter School Leadership Networking Day

Recognizing the increasing complexity of school leadership, Connect Charter School invites you to attend a leadership networking day on Thursday November 28th from 9:30am to 2:30pm. This networking day is intended to provide current charter school administrators and members of distributed leadership teams with purposeful professional learning in two specific topic areas:

Morning Session – 9:30-11:30

Examining implementation and implications of the Leadership Quality Standard

This session will be facilitated by Dr. Jim Brandon, Associate Dean Professional & Community Engagement in the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary. Jim will guide us through some history and context for the LQS and how we might implement the elements into our leadership practice in meaningful ways that support teacher and leader professional growth and student learning. You are also invited to take part in a survey that will provide data for a longitudinal research project: Optimum Learning for All Students: Implementing Alberta’s Professional Practice Standards at This survey is available until October 31, 2019.

Jim works extensively with several of the provincial educational partners in Alberta. He is a past president of the College of Alberta School Superintendents (CASS) and served as its Director of Leadership Capacity Building from 2009 through 2011. Jim has served as a speaker or facilitator for the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA), the Association of School Business Officials of Alberta (ASBOA), the Association of Independent Schools and Colleges of Alberta (AISCA), as well as with the ATA, ASCA, and TAAPCS.

Afternoon Session – 12:30-2:30

Exploring Strategies for Guiding Challenging Conversations Toward a Win-Win-Win Conclusion

This session will be facilitated by Ron Koper and will provide strategies and suggestions for guiding potentially challenging conversations towards successful outcomes. Ron has been a director on the Connect Charter School Board for 3 years.

"Having two outstanding educational leaders as parents, Janet and Larry Koper, I grew a deep appreciation for what remarkable schools look like and how important they are. Since 1982 as a professional I have followed a passion for learning and development, business and organization effectiveness and Human Resources, holding internal and external consulting, managerial and corporate executive roles."

The cost of this networking day is $25 per person and lunch will be provided to all participants.
